The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers report that Lake Superior water levels in February 08 were 8 inches above February 2007 lows. And by August, Superior levels are expected to be 7 to 15 inches above last years low.
Its being attributed to a rainy fall and a winter with plenty of snow in the Lake Superior watershed. Also since winter came early and was especially cold, more ice formed, reducing the amount of water lost to evaporation.
Still the Army Corps reports that despite rising levels Lake Superior is still 10 inches below “normal”.
