Sleep
A bit of comfort on the Superior shore.
Accommodations
Rock Island is a private seven-acre peninsula, located at the junction of Lake Superior and the Michipicoten River. Our lodge features four rooms, each with either one or two queen beds and an en suite bath. A bright, 1,500-square foot common area has couches, a wood fireplace and inspiring Lake Superior views. The lodge has Internet services but no television. Not that you’ll miss it – after a day of outdoor adventure, watch the sunset and fall asleep to the sounds of calling loons and lapping water. Every room in the lodge is located within a stone’s throw from the water’s edge. In autumn storm season, the building all but shakes in thundering surf.
Breakfast is included with your lodge stay; most of our day trip packages include lunch, while family-style dinners are available at additional cost. We strive to accommodate special diets and allergies. Our meals consist of fresh foods with minimal processing, and we try to incorporate organic foods whenever we can.
We are open from June to late October.
Looking for a unique camping experience? We have two options for you. For a touch of rustic comfort, our waterfront prospector tents are ideal for paddlers starting or finishing a journey on Lake Superior who want to skip setting up their own camp. They’re also a great way to introduce someone new to camping in a stress-free environment. For a true “glamping” experience, our waterfront geodesic dome offers a unique way to be immersed in nature and find artistic inspiration. With a sweeping beach and warm water, our traditional tent sites on the Michipicoten River are the perfect place to introduce your family to camping.
