Starting with some basic instruction, your guide will help get you paddling with confidence, safety and efficiency. Most of the day is spent exploring Michipicoten Bay including Perk Point Lighthouse, or if Superior is rough, the Michipicoten River.<\/p>\n

Starting with some basic instruction if required your guide will lead you on an exploration of Driftwood Beach, Sandy Beach and Michipicoten Bay covering paddling technique en route. If conditions are rough on Superior we\u2019ll head up the river stopping at Silver Falls. We\u2019ll make\u00a0a\u00a0packed lunch in the lodge before heading out.<\/p>\n

Paddle the scenic Michipicoten River from the swifts below Scott Falls dam to our base at the river mouth on Lake Superior. Includes a fully outfitted single or double sea kayak or tandem canoe, shuttle to the put-in using our vehicle and map with eco-guide information on river heritage, history, wildlife and ecology.<\/p>\n
Previous paddling experience is required. There are swifts (< class 1) below Scott Falls dam. Because the river is dam controlled, water levels and corresponding river speeds can change without notice.<\/p>\n

The Michipicoten is one of Superior\u2019s largest tributaries and a key part earliest Indigenous life and a key link in the northbound Hudson Bay Company Voyageur fur trade route.The route begins below Scott Falls dam with the steep hills and some class 1 swifts of the river valley, transitioning about 6 km later to a meandering flow past an abandoned fur trading post and our base at the river mouth on Superior.<\/p>\n
You can expect to see otters, mergansers, and various ducks and if you\u2019re lucky wolves\/coyotes, black bear and moose. The river is loaded with fish and especially from late August to mid October when the Salmon spawn. During that time, dozens of Bald Eagles arrive to feast.<\/p>\n
Your guide loves paddling, is certified with wilderness first aid and knows the heritage, history and ecology of the River. This day trip is suitable for paddlers some experience. We can accommodate novice paddlers.<\/p>\n
